We have a combined experience of over 30 years as professional performers and arts educators, and have been involved in the Markham area for over 5 years.

We continue to act as the directors of the Flato Markham Theatre's Discovery Camps and are very proud of the wonderful opportunities provided there for children of the community. ARTSies brings the fun atmosphere of a theatre camp experience to a weekly after-school program, while maintaining valuable educational content, taught by industry professionals.

Libby Avalos

Libby is an established Arts Educator in the GTA and across the country. She "retired" from the stage in late 2011, after being abroad for over a decade. During that time away, Libby lived, trained, and performed in New York City for several years, and spent many years traveling as a performer and Dance Captain on cruise lines. After marrying her true love (also an ARTSie, of the Musical persuasion) and settling into York Region, she focused her energies back onto her lifelong passion- Teaching.

Libby works full time in the Education sector, providing Interactive Assembly Experiences and Teacher PD with Moving EDGEucation. This experience of working with THOUSANDS of students of all ages every year, across Ontario, solidified her belief that today's youth needs more opportunities to build creativity, confidence, and social connections. The Arts are a vehicle we can use to teach many essential life skills.

An active member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance, Libby sits on the panel of judges for several dance competitions across Canada. She can also be found teaching and choreographing in local dance studios. Her ability to inspire, motivate, and empower students makes her an in-demand teacher, and her choreography has won several awards.

Libby has been the Artistic Director at The Flato Markham Theatre Camps for the past 6 years, and continues in that role. She is extremely proud of the progressive camp programming she has created there, and is excited to be able to offer a similar experience year-round in this community that has won her heart! It is a dream come true to launch ARTSies Inc. with co-director Joseph!
